Special care:  If this piece is going to be in contact with food, then it needs your care before its first use. You should wash it with a brush, water, soap and cut raw corn grains with the tejolote (mallet) and it will be ready . It is normal that it gives off dust, they are the non-toxic minerals of the stone. Because it is a porous and natural material without any coating, it will darken when in contact with oils. We like to think that these pieces keep memory of their use, so that some food stains will give character that will make it a unique piece.
